Lord Justice Wall is reported in the Times Online (15.4.2010) as saying "what social workers do not appear to understand is that the public perception of their role in care proceedings is not a happy one. They are perceived by many as the arrogant and enthusiastic removers of children from their parents into an unsatisfactory care system, and as trampling on the rights of parents and children in the process"
It is possible that for every tragic case in which social services don't do enough to protect a child, there are perhaps more cases in which social workers take the children away from their parents either without having considered whether there is another way, or having properly weighed in the balance just how devastating the enforced separation of a family must be.
At Hopkins, we have just set on an experienced Care Proceedings lawyer. His name is Craig. He has a long history of standing up for parents who believe that public authorities are interfering too much in the upbringing of their children.
In the unlikely event that people known to you are faced with local authority involvement in their family life, please give Craig a call on 01623 460 460.
